Powered by Honda, this hard-core track biased weaponry, gives you one of the most startling, insane, terrifying and yet purest driving experiences you will ever have.  Let me explain. It used to be a lovely 180bhp K-series car, now superseded by a pair of VTEC screamers in 245bhp and 300bhp guises, the latter being supercharged. The 245 will hit 62mph in just over three seconds, the 300 in just 2.7, with both topping out well over 140mph, enough to make your eyes pop out. There are faster cars, but not as fun. One of the benefits of this vehicle it does not break down and the plastic moulded seats supports the backside on long journeys.

 It's still got the same 6.0 V12 that squeezes out 510 bhp and 570 Nm of torque at an ear-pleasing 5,750 rpm. It's also quite possibly the last supercar to utilise three pedals and a stick to change gear (and a manual stick is the only option available). 

If you do get your gearshifts right, you'll see 62mph come up on the speedo from a standstill in 4.5 seconds. And with five more gear changes, plus a right foot firmly pressed into the carpet, you'll eventually hit 190mph. 

The styling hasn't changed - but there's new carbon fibre. Lots of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre side strakes, a carbon fibre front splitter, carbon fibre rear diffuser, carbon fibre mirror caps and carbon fibre rear lamp infills. Not enough carbon for you? Then spec the interior package that adds a carbon fibre facia and carbon fibre gearshift surround. 

This new Vanquish will now sit at the top of the Aston tree, and so it should - with the exception of the One-77, it's the most powerful car they will build.

Power comes from a thoroughly reworked version of the venerable all-alloy 6.0-litre V12, positioned 19mm lower than the DBS for improved agility. It features a revised block, a new head, dual variable valve timing, an uprated fuel pump, enlarged throttle bodies, a revised ‘big wing' intake manifold and fully machined combustion chambers.

Aston has shrouded the concept car's construction in some mystery, so it's utter speculation from here on in. A considered guess would suggest those evolutionary curves - which take in cues from the One-77 - are formed from lots of carbon fibre.

And while that familiar Aston 6.0-litre V12 lurks underneath the red coachwork, an even more considered guess would suggest it packs quite a lot more than the 510bhp as seen in, oh, say the DBS and V12 Vantage. Performance-wise, you're staring down the barrel of 0-62mph in just under four seconds and a top speed of over 191mph. Probably.

This sublime four wheel drive, 4.2-litre V8 is a remarkable drive. It’s quiet when you are not flooring it; great vision and comfortable interior make it the best everyday supercar. The R8 is the best thing Audi produced the original Quattro. This ultra-cool fast car is remarkably cheap- yes cheap, only 78K with a surprising big boot. The alternative choice to the Porsche 911.

Going topless in an all-wheel drive super car might be illegal in some places, but just try and catch this culprit. The R8 GT Spyder has enough power and traction to leave nothing but the brief memory of its taillights in the mind of anyone trying to match its pace.

This single-seater, dreamt up by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs, is a sculpture of engineering, a miniature masterpiece of exposed carbon fibre and metal and poo-proof Alcantara, all cocooned about a 2.3-litre Cosworth race engine. This is the smartest bit of British sports-car design since the Ariel Atom 15 years ago.

Purists might scoff that the mighty M Division has eschewed the traditional high-revving, naturally aspirated V10 of old for a twin-turbocharged V8. But this is no ordinary forced induction powerplant: with 552bhp and 501lb ft of torque it is the most powerful M car ever. And a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds, a 0-124mph time of 13.4 seconds and a top speed of 190mph is nothing to scoff at. Unless you're in the passenger seat, of course.

The world's fastest car is disarmingly easy to use. Makes absolutely everything else feel slow. You could argue it's a but uninvolving. But at over 250mph, we don't care.

The Super Sport gets 1,200bhp and a 267mph top speed. 0-62mph? 2.5 seconds. The 0-124mph and 0-186mph times take just 7.3 seconds and 15.0 seconds respectively. Wanna' take it on? Don't bother. Really. Get out of its way and admire it - fleetingly.

This Currently the best small mid-engined supercar in the business, which is why Top Gear gives it two thumbs up. It performs like a dream on motorways and on the track. Powered by a 4.5-litre V8 sitting just behind the head, and stumps up 570bhp and 398lb ft of torque, leading to quite extreme speed: 0-62mph takes just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. The Ferrari 458 overall is a brilliant car. Get one.

A road-legal racer, the Apollo is designed with downforce in mind. Weighing in at just 1,100kg thanks to a carbon-fibre monocoque, the Apollo generates 1,500kg of downforce at 200mph - theoretically enabling it to drive upside down. We're not volunteering to test that theory though.

The speed comes from a twin-turbo version of the Audi RS4's 4.2-litre V8, producing 650bhp and 627lb ft of torque.

That's good for a top speed of 224mph, which would presumably be even higher if it wasn't for all the downforce.

Lamborghini knows how to make a supercar super. Imposing swagger, sledgehammer speed and lots and lots of noise. That is why it was top of the list to exhibit at this year’s Top Gear Live Event. Top Gear have rated  this monster of a car an overall 9/10, the perfect car in terms of comfort, performance, the ‘cool’ factor, quality, and handling. However, it has its down sides- in practicality and running costs. But honestly who cares, if you can afford to buy this car in the first place; storage space, big servicing and road tax bills are the furthest thing on your mind.
